Early Signs Matter More Than You Think
Malocclusions -- misalignments of the teeth -- can be recognized as early as 2 to 3 years of age. Identifying them at that point gives us the opportunity to take steps that may reduce the need for more extensive orthodontic treatment down the road. Our team is glad to assess your child and let you know what, if anything, warrants attention.
A Dental Experience Built Around Kids
Children have different needs and sensitivities than adults, and we take all of them seriously. Our dentists have extensive experience working with children and teens, and our goal is to make every visit one your child feels good about.
When kids grow comfortable with dentistry early, they carry that confidence with them for life -- and that is one of the most valuable things we can give them.
Three Stages of Orthodontic Development
We approach children's orthodontic care in three distinct stages, each matched to where your child is in their development. Understanding the stage your child is in helps us recommend care that fits them right now -- not just eventually.
What Each Stage Involves
-
Stage I -- Early Treatment (Ages 2 to 6)
At this stage we look at underdeveloped dental arches, premature loss of primary teeth, and habits like thumb-sucking. Treatment started this early is often very successful and can, in many cases, reduce the need for future orthodontic or orthopedic treatment.
-
Stage II -- Mixed Dentition (Ages 6 to 12)
As permanent front teeth and 6-year molars come in, we focus on jaw misalignment and dental realignment concerns. A child's hard and soft tissues at this age are especially responsive to orthodontic and orthopedic guidance, making it an excellent window for treatment when it is indicated.
-
Stage III -- Adolescent Dentition
This stage addresses the permanent teeth and the development of the final bite relationship. We are happy to work with your child here as well, building on whatever care began in the earlier stages.
