Digital Impressions

At Sendero Dental Studio in Rancho Mission Viejo, we use digital dental impressions to bring greater comfort, accuracy, and efficiency to your care - whether you are restoring a tooth or exploring cosmetic options.

No More Trays of Putty

Traditional impressions meant biting down on a tray filled with a thick, goop-like material and holding it in place for several minutes while it hardened. For many people - especially those with a sensitive gag reflex - that experience was genuinely uncomfortable. Gagging during the process could also shift the tray and affect how accurate the resulting mold turned out to be.

With our digital scanner, that whole process is behind us. We can capture what we need quickly, without asking you to hold anything in your mouth while it sets.

How a Digital Impression Works

We use a small intraoral scanner - a wand-shaped device, similar in size to the tool used to polish your teeth - to capture a detailed, three-dimensional image of your mouth. We move it systematically around your mouth, and it emits a specialized scanning light as it goes. Within seconds, the 3D model appears on a screen that both you and our team can view together.

That real-time view matters: if any section of the scan does not look quite right, we can re-scan that area immediately, right there in the chair. There is no waiting for a physical mold to be prepared before anyone notices a problem.

Where We Use Digital Impressions

Digital impressions support a range of dental work. In restorative dentistry, they help us design and create tooth replacements such as crowns, bridges, and partial dentures. They are also used in dental implant care - both for planning placement and for creating a surgical guide that supports accurate positioning. And for straightening teeth, digital impressions fit naturally into workflows that use clear aligners, making the planning and visualization process more straightforward.

Accuracy, Speed, and a Clearer Picture

  • Comparable - and Potentially Greater - Accuracy

The accuracy of digital impressions is at least equivalent to traditional impressions, and evidence suggests it may be even more precise in many situations.

  • Instant Results You Can See

The 3D model of your mouth appears on screen within seconds, so you get to see exactly what is going on in your own mouth alongside our team.

  • Faster Process, Start to Finish

Because there is no physical mold to send to a laboratory and no stone model to prepare, digital impressions cut the time involved in each step - from the scan itself all the way through to your final result.

  • Quick Correction When Needed

If a section of the scan does not look right, we can re-scan it right away - no need to schedule a return visit just to redo an impression.
