iTero Digital Scanners

At Sendero Dental Studio in Rancho Mission Viejo, CA, we use iTero digital scanning technology to give you a clear, detailed view of your smile - right in the treatment room, without having to leave the chair.

See Your Smile in High Definition

The iTero digital scanner captures high-definition images of your teeth so that even small chips or early-stage cavities are clearly visible. We can show you exactly what is happening with your dental health in real time, making it far easier to understand and discuss any care you may need.

The scanner also displays digital x-rays alongside surface images of your teeth, giving us - and you - a complete picture of your oral health without ever leaving the treatment chair.

How the Scanning Process Works

We use a small, handheld wand with a built-in camera to capture images inside your mouth. The wand is slim and flexible, designed to keep you as comfortable as possible throughout the scan. Because the entire mouth can be scanned in one pass, there is no need for multiple takes or repeat visits just to gather images.

Captured images appear on a screen almost instantly - no waiting for printouts, no stepping away to another room. The iTero scanner itself does not produce x-ray radiation, and it can display imported x-ray images and other imaging files alongside its own scans.

Finding Problems Before They Grow

One of the most valuable things digital scanning offers is early detection. By using different spectrums of light - including near-infrared light - the scanner can reveal cavities that would not yet be visible to the naked eye. Catching decay at an early stage means that less-invasive options are often available, which is typically more comfortable and less costly than treating a problem that has been allowed to progress.

Studies have shown that this approach to cavity detection can perform as well as, and in some cases better than, traditional bitewing x-rays when it comes to identifying caries.

Supporting Your Treatment from Start to Finish

Digital scanning does more than identify issues - it actively supports your care. Three-dimensional images from the iTero scanner allow us to create precise digital impressions and, where relevant, show you simulated estimates of potential results. For example, the scanner can model what clear aligners might do for your smile, giving you a realistic picture to help you make an informed decision.

Once treatment is underway, time-lapse views let you track progress over the course of longer treatments. Digital files can also be sent directly to dental labs when an appliance needs to be fabricated off-site, reducing delays. Because so much can be accomplished with one device, fewer separate instruments need to be introduced - which streamlines your visit and keeps things moving efficiently. Your imaging records are stored digitally, making them easy for our team to access and reducing wait time at future appointments.
